Does Hall’s Bayou Ranch offer day hunts?
No. However, our sister company Briscoe Production Co. does on its Exotic Game Ranch. Please call Bill Buck, Exotic Ranch Manager @ 409-739-4796, e-mail for more information or visit their website at www.briscoeexoticranch.com
Does the club offer individual memberships?
Although we offered individual memberships in the past, we now only offer corporate memberships. We recommend that individuals who wish to hunt with us get together with one or two others in order to join.
How many members are in the club?
Hall’s Bayou Ranch limits the number of memberships each year as a part of our habitat administration program. In this manner, we can assure that our members will always find an adequate supply of game. We do not allow any area to become “hunted out”. We only add new members as new freshwater projects come online, and we can attract the game to support the addition. For the 2006-07 membership year, we had 30 memberships.
What is the difference between guided, assisted, and self-conducted hunts?
Hall’s Bayou Ranch offers three different ways to hunt fowl:
Self-conducted Hunts require that the
member provide transportation to the specified site and all
provisions needed for the hunt. These hunts have no staff
supervision.
Assisted Hunts are in either managed or
open areas where the members need help transporting people or gear
to a hunting location then back to their vehicles. The assistants
will not remain at your location during the hunt, but will return at
your request.
Guided Hunts have a guide present at
all times to supply transportation, decoys, retriever, and set up
and pick up as required. At their choice, the member may retain
control of the hunt as far as decoy set up, calling, calling the
shot, etc. The member may also allow the guide to control all
aspects of the hunt. The guides are not allowed to shoot unless the
member gives them permission. The Ranch hopes that all members, new
and old, will utilize our guides because they are very knowledgeable
on travel routes, bird patterns, and the ranch in general.
Starting with the 2005-06 hunting season, the entire Ranch is operated as a Managed Area, meaning that members can only hunt at assigned sites. Members who decide to go hunting at the last minute, or otherwise do not get reservations made by the deadline can still hunt by going to the lodge about 4:00 am the morning they want to hunt. They can sign up for an available site on the Daily Rotation Board. The Daily Rotation Board lists available sites, which comply with the roosting management plan. Only self-conducted hunts are available when using this option.
Is there an extra charge for guided hunts?
Yes, tipping is mandatory. Our guides are volunteers and these fees are to help our guides. All guides have to own their own items such as ATV's trailers, dogs, decoys, boats, and specialized hunting gear. Our goose guides alone have thousands of dollars invested in their decoys alone. These fees help our guides with their fuel cost, veterinary bills, and any other equipment they use or have to replace when guiding hunts.
No reservations are necessary for self-conducted hunts to sites selected from the Daily Rotation Board. Reservations for hunting in a managed area or for assisted or guided hunts are made by calling the Lodge.
Does the Club supply decoys, ATVs, etc.?
For self-conducted hunts, all supplies are the responsibility of the member. For guided and assisted hunts, the club will furnish hunting supplies as the member wishes.
Who is eligible for self-conducted hunts?
Any member may opt for self-conducted hunts. However, the Ranch hopes that all members, new and old, will utilize our guides because they are very knowledgeable on travel routes, bird patterns, and the ranch in general.
